A drink that warms, soothes and is perfectly suited to the evening. Hojicha Orange Spice combines roasted Japanese green tea with warming spices and the natural sweetness of orange – aromatic, comforting and ideal for a quiet moment of calm. The toasty character of hojicha pairs beautifully with the warmth of cinnamon, cloves and cardamom, while fresh orange juice adds brightness and a gentle citrus balance. It tastes like a peaceful evening, a soft blanket and the scent of winter spices drifting through the kitchen.

Ingredients (1 serves):
- 200 ml orange juice
- 4 cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 cardamom pods (lightly crushed)
- 1 star anise
- 2 slices of fresh ginger
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 4 g Hojicha Powder
- 40 ml water (75°C)
- Orange slice, to garnish
Our tip:
Instead of whole spices, you may use ground spices — add around ⅓ tsp of each and adjust the intensity to suit your taste.
Preparation:
- In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, ginger and sugar.
- Bring to the boil, then remove from the heat, cover and leave to infuse for 15 minutes to allow the spices to release their full aroma.
- In a separate bowl, pour 75°C water over the hojicha powder.
- Whisk vigorously with a chasen until smooth and lightly frothy.
- Strain the spiced orange juice into a glass.
- Gently pour the prepared hojicha on top and garnish with a slice of orange.
