Matcha bamboo spoon chashaku

Chashaku is a small bamboo spoon used to scoop matcha. It is utilized during a traditional Japanese tea ceremony to allow for precise measurement of the required amount of matcha. Matcha tea is prepared differently from other types of tea, and using a chashaku spoon is an essential part of the Japanese tea brewing ritual that brings us closer to the traditional ceremony.

Chashaku is the traditional spoon for serving matcha and an integral part of the matcha tea ceremony. The curved portion of the spoon is used to scoop a small portion of matcha tea and place in a bowl (matchawan). The mixture is then whisked to uniform consistency using a bamboo whisk (chasen). The amount of matcha served depends on individual preference.

Traditionally, thin tea or “usucha” is prepared with 1 chashaku of matcha (one teaspoon) and approximately 75-100ml of hot water. This proportion is perfect for creating ideal frothy texture on the surface of matcha.

Koicha, or thick tea, is made using significantly more matcha 4-6 chashaku portions (4-6 teaspoons) in 150ml of hot water. The resulting matcha is much denser and sweeter. Whisking it is more difficult and this method does not produce the characteristic foam. It is served almost exclusively as part of the Japanese tea ceremony

  • Our brand

Moya is a top quality Japanese tea brand . You can buy our matcha tea and other green teas in our affiliated shops all over Europe, in our online green tea shop, and in our showroom in Warsaw. We are proud of the quality of our green tea and we consider ourselves experts in the field. Quality, colour, taste and price of matcha tea depends on many factors, such as region, rainfall and –primarily – the harvest from which the tea comes from. Matcha from the first harvest is the most delicate one because it is produced from the finest leaves that were exposed to direct sunlight only for a short period of time. Japan puts severe quality norms and the harvest volume is thus limited.
